Hello! My name is Somalen Sao. I am the founder of Ratana – Bag and Printing, which is a tote bag and printing service based locally in Cambodia. Previously in my career, I worked as a researcher for a private company.

However, I knew that this was not the career I wanted to continue doing, so I often felt like I was left wondering what I truly wanted to pursue. Throughout my life, I’ve had a strong passion for design and creative activities. This made me realise that this was the major turning point in my life from being a researcher to starting a new journey in the printing industry.

For me, to do something repeatedly and find joy in it every single time transcends mere interest. It’s called love. I am passionate about using design to make a positive impact by solving problems. I believe design is the best visual way to communicate and express feelings and share experiences and stories. I am fascinated by design and eager to learn everything I can. My goal is to build a career as a creative and innovative graphic and packaging designer. I know my journey in this career won’t be easy, and there are a lot of things to do along the way – but I believe I can achieve this outcome.

But I know this isn’t my final destination! Now is the time to turn my passion into a reality

My current role at a printing service has ignited a passion for graphic design. While I enjoy refining existing designs, I am eager to learn the entire creative process – from concept to completion. Going forward, I knew that a comprehensive graphic design course was the next best step in the right direction. I believe that a strong start is the key to success, so I did my homework! After researching different graphic design courses, I came across the Creative Design School. I dived deep into its curriculum, and I decided this was the right place for me to begin my journey to becoming a graphic and packaging designer.

I enrolled in the Graphic Design level 2 course which has been a fantastic journey of learning and growth. Having a dedicated tutor has been very valuable and his encouragement and guidance have pushed me to become more creative. I believe we all possess hidden talents that we may not even be aware of. It’s important to continually explore and unlock our potential, and believe in our ability to succeed in our own unique way.

After graduating from the Graphic Design level 2 course, I have recently been given an opportunity to work with a local startup to design a corporate identity for their company. It’s going to be a new challenge, but I am really excited. It’s a time for me to apply all I have learned to the real world of design.
