Graphic Design for Beginners:
Diploma Course Level 1
The aim of this course is to provide our students with the basics of graphic design, master the basic skills to get them started and to help them to progress onto a Graphic Design related Diploma Course or other course areas.
There are 6 modules in this course to be completed. Each module has been designed as progressive steps so that you are learning by doing. You will be presented with Projects and Assignments in each module in which you will be assessed, plus a final exam which is carried Online through our eCampus.
MODULE ONE: Design Basics
Before you can fully understand what is involved in graphic design, you will need to know the basic of design. In this first module, you will be taken through 6 very important steps which will help you to understand and plan your designs from the very beginning.
MODULE TWO: Elements
The elements covered in this module are Images, Files and Typography basics. You will work on a couple of projects with your Design & Training Coach to help you to understand and use these elements in effective ways.
MODULE THREE: Colour
important attribute when designing, so it is very important to be able to use these effectively. You will venture into different formats of colour use in this module when you carry out a number of projects and assignments to build your confidence in this area.
MODULE FOUR: Pre-Press
Now it is all about getting your designs ready for production, in which is called ‘PrePress’. There are a lot of things to consider before sending your designs to the printers for production. Here we will look into the areas included in this process to get the best possible finish and to clear any problems prior to the production process.
MODULE FIVE: Production
The moment of truth, when your design is going to be printed, so again you will extend what you have learnt in module 4 by covering the main areas when it comes to printing, how it will be printed and what it is being printed on.
MODULE SIX: Finishing
This is the creative side of the production of your design. You will investigate different options available to you in the finishing of your design and how it can look with different effects and materials applied – a great way to extend your creativity.
The industry standard software for this course is the Adobe Creative Suite. Any version will be acceptable for this course, but Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign will be required. You can also subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud as a Student which will entitle you to a very good discount in which you can pay monthly. This way you will have access to all of the latest software and all the updates. Other software is acceptable for this course.
Dedication to this course depends on the time you have available. There are 2 option available for studying this course; Fixed Term Course in which you would complete your course in 6 months, or Flexible Study in which you can study at your own pace.
Study material will be supplied, but we will also list a variety of additional study books etc which you can purchase if you wish.
It is important that you have access to the Internet so you can access your course through our eCampus, plus Skype would also be an advantage for live lessons.
Knowledge & Skills:
This course can be for beginners and no prior knowledge or experience required to study this course.
An ability to be self motivated, an eye for design and open to new ideas.
None required for this course, but you must be able to communicate, read and write in English.
On successful completion of this course plus completing the final exam, you will be awarded a Diploma Certificate in Graphic Design for Beginner Level 1.
Once you have completed this course successfully, you will be able to progress onto the Graphic Design Diploma Course, or even the Advanced Graphic Design Diploma Course depending on your final results.
You will also be giving full support and individual training on using the related Adobe Creative Suite software throughout this course. Every module n this course has a live project to carry out, and we will use these projects to help develop and improve your software skills. Live training is provided on a one to one basis using Skype, plus individual video support.
We have students from all over the world which means that some may struggle with the English language. We will give individual support in improving English throughout this course for those who can speak some English but will require further development. Please note that all our courses are delivered in English, although many of our tutors can speak some other languages and may be able to support up to a certain level. It is important however that you understand basic English for this course.
