CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF THE CREATIVE DESIGN SCHOOL
Two decades of helping people become creative and unique
This month, the Creative Design School celebrates a very special milestone: 20 years of helping people discover their creative ability, build confidence, and take real steps towards a future in design.
When the school first began in 2006, online learning was still a fairly new idea. Most people still thought that studying graphic design meant travelling to a college, sitting in a classroom, and following a fixed timetable. But we believed there was another way.
We wanted to create a design school that was flexible, personal, practical and built around the student, not around large classes or rigid systems.
Twenty years later, that belief is still at the heart of everything we do.
One of Europe’s first online design schools
The Creative Design School was originally started in Italy and later expanded into the UK following growing demand across Europe. From the beginning, we were one of the first online graphic design schools in Europe, long before online creative education became as common as it is today.
That early experience taught us a great deal.
We learned that students do not all arrive with the same background, confidence, skills or goals. Some are complete beginners who have always wanted to become designers. Some are already working in marketing, administration, business or creative roles and want to build stronger design skills. Others are looking for a complete change of direction and need support to take that first step.
That is why our approach has always been personal.
We do not believe in treating students as numbers. We believe in getting to know each person, understanding what they want to achieve, and helping them build from where they are now.
Built around real people, not just courses
Over the years, we have welcomed students from across the UK, Europe and around the world through our online campus.
What has always made the Creative Design School different is the way we combine structured learning with individual support. Our students do not simply work through course material on their own. They are guided, encouraged and challenged by their course tutor and design coach, helping them develop not only technical skills, but also confidence, creative thinking and a stronger sense of direction.
Design is not just about learning software. It is about learning how to think, question, explore, develop ideas and communicate visually.
That is why our courses focus on both skill and creativity. We help students understand the foundations of design, but we also encourage them to find their own style, their own voice and their own creative path.
Flexible learning that fits around life
One of the reasons the school has continued to grow is that our courses are designed to fit around real life.
Many of our students are working full-time. Some are parents. Some are changing careers. Some are returning to study after many years away from education. Others are balancing their course with existing creative work, freelance projects or business commitments.
We understand that life can be busy, which is why flexibility has always been one of our strongest values.
Students can enrol at any time of the year, study online, and progress through their course with support and guidance. This takes away the pressure and allows learning to become more enjoyable, focused and creative.
When people feel supported, they become more confident. And when they become more confident, their creativity starts to grow.
Keeping design education relevant
The creative industries have changed enormously over the last 20 years.
Technology has changed. Software has changed. The way we communicate has changed. Branding, advertising, packaging, digital illustration, visual communication and social media have all continued to develop at speed.
Because of this, our courses have never stood still.
The Creative Design School continues to work closely with the needs of the creative industries, keeping course material relevant and practical. We want students to learn skills that are useful, current and connected to the real world of design.
Our courses are designed to help students progress, whether they are starting with Graphic Design for Beginners, moving through diploma levels, developing specialist skills, or exploring areas such as creative thinking, freelancing and professional development.
The aim has always been the same: to help students become more capable, more creative and more prepared for the opportunities ahead.
More than a school
Looking back over the past 20 years, the Creative Design School has become much more than an online place to study.
It has become a space for people who want to change direction, rebuild confidence, take themselves seriously, and finally give their creative ambitions the attention they deserve.
For some students, the journey begins with a simple thought: “I wonder if I could do this?”
By the end of their studies, that thought often becomes something much stronger: “I can do this.”
That is what makes this work so rewarding.
We have seen students grow from nervous beginners into confident designers. We have seen people build portfolios, develop new skills, discover hidden strengths and take bold steps into freelance work, employment, further study or personal creative projects.
Every student’s journey is different, and that is exactly how it should be.
Thank you for being part of our story
As we celebrate 20 years of the Creative Design School, we want to thank every student, past and present, who has been part of this journey.
You have helped shape the school into what it is today.
Your questions, ideas, projects, ambitions and determination have kept the school alive, moving forward and always improving.
We are proud of what has been achieved over the last two decades, but we are even more excited about what comes next.
The creative industries will continue to change. New tools, new ideas and new opportunities will continue to appear. But one thing will stay the same: our commitment to helping each student become creative, confident and unique.
Here’s to 20 years of the Creative Design School — and to the next generation of designers ready to begin their journey.
