Successful textile designers marry a creative vision of what a finished textile will look like with a deep understanding of the technical aspects of production and the properties of fiber, yarn, and dyes.

There are 6 modules in this course to be completed. Each module has been designed as progressive steps so that you are learning by doing. You will be presented with Projects and Assignments in each module in which you will be assessed, plus a final exam which is carried online through our eCampus.

Designs for both woven and printed textiles often begin with a drawing or watercolor sketch of the finished design are covered in this courses.

Traditionally, drawings of woven textile patterns were translated onto special forms of graph paper called point papers which were used by the weavers in setting up their looms.

Today, most professional textile designers use some form of computer-aided design software created expressly for this purpose.

This course will teach you everything you need to know and develop the skills to launch your career into this sector.

“I completed the beginners level in textile design before continuing onto level 2. I was glad I have completed level 1 first as it really helped with understanding the basics plus using the design software. This has been a fantastic course for me and already I have a creative portfolio of my work plus all of these extra skills”

My first question about this course is how can you learn textile design online? Once I got started I realised that it was no different from attending a class at a college. After all, You do have to work on your designs yourself and the course tutor is there when I need and support. Live one-to-one Skypes meant I could see how to do different tecniques as if he was right next to me. Now that I have completed this course I have a great portfolio and lots of different skills to help me with my designs.
